Unknown May 28, at PM. She dances around laughing and smiling in a bold colourful bikini with flowers, she has long hair and a tan. She is the epitome of everything feminine. Her character has been constructed to be the ideal 'normal' woman.

She doesn't have piercings and tattoos, she is brunette which stereotypically suggests more intelligence, and less sex than a blonde, she wears a colourful top, with a bikini underneath, she doesn't show much flesh. Her face is only shown for a moment, before it is covered by her hair. This lets the audience imagine themselves in her position. One Direction fans are known for being notoriously jealous and wouldn't like to see a famous actress or singer playing this role, instead they'd rather have a nobody who is easier to identify with.

They have the top down, again insinuating their free and happy state of mind, they raise their hands up giggling and laughing. The car is red suggesting feelings of lust, love, romance and passion. The girls all wear white, or bright colours. They are girly, and fun. The boys are shown being 'silly' on top of a beach house, the beach house is white, and the strategically placed bright red jeans contrast well with this.

They are shown climbing about on the stairs and balcony of the beach house, this suggests that they are wanting to be portrayed are fun guys, who are cheeky and crazy. Shots of the band singing in a group, but not looking into the camera again suggest they are a tight knit unit. That they all really believe in what they are singing about. They are often shown singing with their eyes closed of gesticulating outwardly to the camera or each other. They want to come across as passionate and sincere, they use eyecontact with the camera onlines that involve the words "you, you've, we've" etc, to show that they are connected with the audience, and for the audience to feel as though this song is really about them.

Lastly the boys are shown having a kick around on the beach, the girls from before are nowhere to be seen, and the boys are joking and laughing amung themselves. They want to show that having a girlfriend isn't everything, and that their friendships come before everything, we see an acoustic guitar in the van, even though we know none of them can actually play. This is an extremely well constructed and manufactured video, the entire video screams pop culture.

From the light coloured clothes they were, to the perfectly constructed bunch of curls upon each of their heads. The single peaked at 4 on the Billboard Hot , and 1 on the UK singles chart. The music video, uploaded to YouTube on August 19 , was, at one point, one of the twenty most viewed videos of all time, after garnering more than million views since its premiere.

The song is about a girl who is attractive, yet she doesn't believe it herself, and, as a result, feels insecure when complimented. Critics have questioned whether the song's lyrical content is more harmful to female self esteem than encouraging. Great dating advice. Remember girls, low self esteem — very attractive to men. It goes deeper! You got it wrong. To prove I'm right I put it in a so-o-ng. It held on to its spot for four weeks.

It was the highest first-week UK sales for any song in at the time. On the New Zealand Singles Chart, the single entered at number sixteen, then jumped to number three the following week. It peaked at number two in its fourth and fifth weeks, and spent eleven consecutive weeks in the New Zealand Singles Chart top ten. When you had the melody for the chorus in your head, did you have the vision already for how it was going to sound -- this power-poppy, rock-based sound? Well, my vision for the guys in those early days was always guitar-pop.

Everyone was doing Rihanna dance-pop. My sort of rule with boy bands and groups, is you do, like You do the exact opposite of what's going on. Because to me, I feel like teenage girls need to feel it's their own thing. If you're just trying to be Usher , they'll just buy Usher So we always knew it was gonna be guitar, high-energy, but Carl and Rami just got [the production] right. That's hard to say. It's definitely up there. I mean, as far as just pure pop bliss, totally.

But it's hard to say, because now it's kind of like an older song for me, and you always love your new babies. But definitely, as far as one of the things I'm most proud of -- not just because of the song, but because I wrote this thing for my wife that became this sort of pop culture thing I look at boy bands as ways to get teenage girls through that awkward time in their life, you know?

It's the thing that the cheerleader and the hipster [have in common] -- like, Halsey was a One Direction fan growing up, the cool girl like that, and the nerdy girl My older sister was really shy, and then New Kids on the Block happened, and all of a sudden she started having friends, because it gave her something in common with the rest of the girls.

So that always stuck with me.
